La Gran Tapa has been a culinary icon in San Diego since it was conceptualized and brought into being in 1984 by Paul Dobson, our most loved San Diego Restaurateur. His hands on attention to detail brought a special authenticity to our city. The original menu was all tapas, small plates to be shared, and was specifically Spanish Cuisine only. Since it opened, I marveled at how it created a special cultural awakening here in San Diego. I was inspired and influenced by that to open my own take on the Euro Tapas scene, The Turquoise, in North Pacific Beach. Now our re-opening of La Gran Tapa will remember all of what it was and add to that by encompassing more than just the tapas of Spain. It will reach out to the tapas experience for every place that identifies with it, all of the Mediterranean,
